Founding a Legacy of Luxury

Strangely enough, Cadillac’s origins go back to Henry Ford and the Henry Ford Company, an early car company Ford started but ended up leaving after a dispute with his investors. Those investors wanted Leland to determine how much they could liquidate the company’s assets for, but he instead persuaded them to keep what they had and establish a new company.
This new company, built from the bones of the Henry Ford Company, was named Cadillac Automobile Company in honor of the French explorer who founded the city of Detroit. The earliest Cadillac models utilized a single-cylinder engine, and their first few automobiles were finished in late 1902, the same year the new company was founded. At the New York Auto Show in early 1903, they unveiled their first vehicles and gathered thousands of orders from people in attendance.
