If you’re looking for an all-electric SUV that can take you, your passengers, and plenty of cargo anywhere you need to go without emitting any harmful pollutants into the air, then you’re in luck. As more and more options hit the market, there’s never been a better time to be looking for an electric SUV. For the 2024 model year, Chevy is introducing a brand-new option into the field: the Blazer EV. While it’s named after the gasoline-powered Blazer SUV, the Blazer EV has been designed from the ground up as an all-electric vehicle using the Ultium platform, giving it solid range and a more modern aesthetic than the original.

Though the Blazer EV has a lot going for it, it’s going to have a hard time going up against the Cadillac LYRIQ, which debuted for the 2023 model year as the first SUV to use the Ultium platform. Both of these vehicles have a ton in common, so you might be wondering if the Blazer EV is just a more affordable version of the LYRIQ. As your place to go to find the Cadillac LYRIQ for sale near Eagle Lake, we here at Snell Cadillac want to let you know how the LYRIQ stacks up against competitors so you can make an informed decision. Today, we’re going to see how the 2024 LYRIQ compares to the 2024 Blazer EV, from solid stats to intangible qualities. Let’s dive in and see which EV is the better buy.

Range and Power

Both the Blazer EV and the LYRIQ offer drivers the option between rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). The RWD system is very similar for the two. No matter which model you choose, the RWD setup produces 340 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. There is a slight difference in range, however. The LYRIQ is a bit longer and heavier than the Blazer EV. That gives you more comfort and cargo space to work with, but it does mean that it gets 314 miles of estimated range with RWD, while a Blazer EV with RWD gets 324 miles. Of course, that’s not a huge disparity, and most drivers probably won’t notice it on a day-to-day basis.

With AWD, you get more traction, which comes in handy while driving around Eagle Lake during an icy Minnesota winter or even just on a rainy day. Opting for AWD over RWD generally means a hit to efficiency since power is going to all four wheels instead of just two, and these EVs are no exception. The Blazer EV compounds this by pairing the AWD option with a smaller 85 kWh battery instead of the 102 kWh battery in the RWD model, giving it an estimated range of just 279 miles. Further, AWD doesn’t make up for that drop in range with extra power; it actually lowers the vehicle’s overall output to 288 hp, so you should expect a peppier ride from the RWD version.

The Cadillac LYRIQ with AWD is a completely different story. It does lose a bit of range, but not nearly as much because it keeps the 102 kWh battery, bringing the figure down to a still very impressive 307 miles, making it possible to drive from Eagle Lake to Omaha on a single charge. And instead of turning down the power compared to RWD, the LYRIQ’s AWD system brings its figures up to 500 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque, so you can pass with confidence and let loose on your next joy ride. With this model, AWD is the upgrade it should be instead of being a mixed bag like it is with the Blazer EV.

Style and Aesthetics

The Blazer EV has its own distinctive style, which definitely has some solid futuristic charm. But the LYRIQ has many of the same assets on its exterior, like sleek headlights and a commanding grille, alongside a sleeker body and the timeless prestige of the Cadillac badge instead of the humbler Chevy bowtie. Inside, the Blazer EV is going for a sporty look, with bright red accents and bold, round air vents that are designed to catch your eye. While it’s certainly unique, it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. The interior of the LYRIQ is going for elegance instead of athleticism, with air vents that blend seamlessly into the dash and a layout that’s minimalist without being stark. Whether you’re cruising around Eagle Lake or giving your in-laws a ride from the airport, you’ll be impressing everyone who gets a look at your SUV, exterior and interior alike.

Technology Features

Both the LYRIQ and the Blazer EV have modern infotainment systems with a familiar basic setup: there’s a touchscreen in the center of the dash, a digital driver information screen behind the wheel, physical buttons throughout the cabin, and voice command capability. Both also come standard with Google Built-In, which lets you use apps like Google Maps, Google Play, and more through the vehicle’s interface. However, on the Blazer EV, this feature is a substitution for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which are conspicuously absent from its list of features. The 2024 LYRIQ has both of these systems for connecting your phone to the interface alongside Google Built-In, and they’re wireless, so you don’t have to reach for a cord to hook your smartphone up to the infotainment system.

The hardware is also not identical. In the Blazer EV, the driver information center and central touchscreen are close to each other but are distinct entities. The LYRIQ, on the other hand, has a single curving screen that includes both displays. This not only makes for a nicer aesthetic, but it also makes it easier to glance at both, so you can get your eyes back on the road quickly and stay safe. Touchscreens are great for their versatility, but they can be difficult to use while driving because they’re hard to use without looking at them. In the LYRIQ, you can bypass the touchscreen by using a unique tactile rotary controller in the center console to change your settings. The Blazer EV has no such feature, so you’re stuck with the touchscreen whether it’s convenient at the moment or not.

The LYRIQ Is a Great Luxury EV at a Great Price

Overall, it’s clear that the LYRIQ offers a better driving experience than the Blazer EV, with its sleek look, well-appointed interior, and luxurious lineup of features. Surprisingly, this extra quality doesn’t come at a huge markup, either. With a starting price of $58,590, the LYRIQ Tech is only $4,370 more expensive than the comparable Blazer EV RS RWD, which starts at $54,200.[a] Although the base Blazer EV AWD models begin at just $48,800, it needs to be remembered that they have a much smaller battery pack for significantly less range and power. With all of that in mind, the choice becomes even clearer: the Cadillac LYRIQ is the way to go.

Eagle Lake drivers won’t just get a well-appointed interior, a cutting-edge powertrain, and a hearty helping of style when they choose the LYRIQ; they’ll also get fantastic value from a luxury vehicle.
